Hello lovelies! I apologize for not being around much. If you follow me on Instagram you would know that I recently had pacemaker surgery due to a heart condition, but I am recovering and I miss my blog as well as my YouTube videos so I am ready to start everything back up.
I recently completed my second year of college and I took a fashion design class this past semester that I really fell in love with. I had no clue that I'd really enjoy designing clothes so much but I do love to draw. So, because of that I decided that I would show you the final project we had to do for anyone who is deciding if they want to do fashion design in college. I want to share my experience and what I got out of it. Without further or due, here it is!
First I'll tell you a little about what was required from this project. We had to create a 7 model collection that included a jacket, dress, and at least 3 accessories. We also needed to include at least 1 pattern and come up with a color collection. Along with all the above requirements we had to have 3 flats. Flats are what the garment would look like if you were to lie it out on a table flat. Flats are what is shipped to the manufacturer to produce the garment. It is used to show all the stitching lines. As well, we had to show our pattern or patterns/ color pallet and a mood board. A mood board is showing how we got the inspiration for our collection.
Here is my mood board. I was going for a fun and girly collection and I added hints of cheetah throughout the collection because I love to mix patterns.
Here are the patterns I used. I created the floral print myself and then used cheetah as an accent, minus the cheetah print dress that you'll see in the moment. I chose cheetah as a second pattern because it's a neutral pattern that pairs well with the bright floral print.
Here are the looks from the collection I created!
Here are the flats!
The title of my collection is called Happy. I went with happy because that is what I wanted everyone to feel when they saw my presentation, that I had laryngitis for and unfortunately could not talk haha! Here is briefly what I was going for:
"When I was think about what I wanted to say about my line, I was reminded about something. Doing this whole project really allowed me to show my personal style, to be as creative as I wanted, to tell a story with 7 different outfits. If you were to look in my closet you'd see a lot of neutrals but there's something about color that brings out a true sense of joy. I wanted to show that color never goes out of style, no matter the season. That's why I chose for my line to be a fall line. The transition from summer to fall. When it's still warm but can be a bit chilly. I wanted to show that color and bold patterns can always be worn. I just think too many people are afraid to stray from the ordinary. I wanted to show that taking risks and standing out is a good thing. The colors, patterns, and actual garments give off a sense of confidence. Like saying, "I'm here. I'm bold. I'm beautiful. I'm a classy lady." I want women to know that showing off your style is sexy, not your skin. Finishing this project I realized something. I was actually sad that I was done with it because I had actually gotten to show myself and enjoyed the whole process. The colors remind me of outside with all the beautiful flowers. The dresses, tops, and bottoms show a sense of classy confidence. And putting them together give a bold statement and that makes me Happy. I want people to look at this and think, "Those colors are so pretty they make me happy. These clothes make me happy, and happiness is the best accessory you can wear."
xoxo, tori
