It's What's On The Inside

I recently was put in a situation where I decided to stand up for not only myself but for others in my life. The topic was tattoos. Someone was saying how larger tattoos aren't classy and that classy people don't usually get those types of tattoos. This person came across as I'm better than you and anyone who has a tattoo. They commented on someone else, about how they were "classier" than them and it just really saddened me. To think that someone would or can honestly say something like that to someone else. Now, I have a small cross on my wrist but it's still a tattoo, but what bothered me most is that I know people that have big tattoos or tattoos all over them and they seem pretty darn classy to me. Just because someone wants a tattoo on their body, doesn't mean they need to be judged for it. To me, tattoos are a form of art work on the body and no, it's not for everyone, but who are we to judge those that do like them.

The bible says, Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgement. John 7:24

What I got out of this was, no one has the right to judge another person. Yes we all do it, I do it. But it's not about what we look like on the outside. It's what is on the inside that makes us who we are and I think that in today's society we get so caught up in the clothes, make up, and other things that we fail to really get to know people beyond their exterior. Tattoos don't make a person. They are apart of a person. It's a personal decision they made because it's something that they want. If you can judge someone for the amount of tattoos on their body, then they just allows them to judge you for carrying that Coach purse or wearing that J. Crew outfit. It's not any different. It's a form of self expression and what gives anyone the right to judge someone else for their ways of self expression. Instead of spending so much time judging someone by the way they look, we should be reminding ourselves they we don't really know each other. We don't know what's on the inside. Stop assuming that if a girl with tons of nice clothes, a pretty house and nice car is dumb. Stop assuming that someone who actually cares about their schooling is a nerd and isn't cool. Stop assuming that someone covered in tattoos or has a tattoo isn't classy or is a bad person. Just stop. Remind yourself next time you start to judge someone in your mind… Hey, I actually have no clue who they are as a person so therefore I have no right to sit here and think negative things about them.
Also, not one single person on planet earth is better than the other. No matter what kind of car you drive, or what kind of house you live in, or what kind of clothes you wear. Expensive things don't just automatically put you on a level above everyone else. God created us all equal. The only person that is better than us is someone who died for us so we can have eternal life in heaven, The Lord Jesus Christ.

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. John 13:16

Lastly, don't be afraid to stand up for yourself or for someone you care about. You are entitled to believe what you want and think what you want, but if you know someone is out of line, it's okay to say something. But remember, there's a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it and I'll let you figure those ways out. Don't feel ashamed for sticking up for something that you care about. If you feel that's it's something that needs to be done or said. Do it in the proper way. Handle it in a Godly manner. Live to please The Lord.
